<p>If it was only about the 1975 match, It could have been a mistake by the video editor. As far as many sources from the web, there were only 3.</p> <ol> <li>Not counting the draws, first to win 10 games wins the Championship.</li> <li>If the result is 9-9, then the title goes to Fischer but the prize money is split equally.</li> <li>There will be an unlimited number of games.</li> </ol> <p>The first one was accepted and the other two were rejected by FIDE delegates. Hence the match was forfeited and the champion title was given to Anatoly Karpov, his challenger.</p> <p>As far as Fischer being concerned who was very demanding in character and liked to impose his own rules, the number 179 could have been total demands throughout his career.</p> <p>Some other sources mention that he only asked for two rules. Since you have said you are a beginner and never played in a tournament before, I would suggest you to have <strong>1 hour</strong> or <strong>45mins + 45sec</strong> increment time control. Additionally:</p> <ol> <li><p>When you engage yourself in a 1 hour time control chess game, you are not under any pressure to make moves without calculation and thus avoiding <em>big blunders</em>, this happens almost for everyone who has not played against opponents much. </p></li> <li><p>You are also open to various variations for a move, thus allowing to think at least 3-4 moves ahead of the next move(visualizing).</p></li> </ol> <hr> <blockquote> <p>I like correspondence but sometimes I forget (over night) a bit the feeling of the game, lose the ideas or other stuff.</p> </blockquote> <p>Yes, Correspondence games will tend you to lose track of your positions, tempo, tactics etc since it may take 1 or more than 1 day to make a move. Almost 20-30% of the time either me or my opponent will lose because of this, even though having an advantageous position. But my guess is Correspondence game is relative to your memory power.</p> <p>But remember that you also need to concentrate on the skills by reading books, solving puzzles etc. Playing with opponents alone will not improve your game because online games are just application of your skills not development.</p>

<p>Yes, more longer the game you can play, it can test your <code>concentration</code>, <code>visualization</code> and <code>memory power</code>.</p> <p>When I initially started playing Chess, I was always excited to play blitz Chess. I kept playing and finally I couldn't improve my Chess as I didn't improve what was needed.</p> <p>Recently I played with a time control of 1 hour in my debut FIDE tournament, I took the most time for my moves against my opponent. All 9 players I met in the field were having Class C rating but then they had the basics right. I could win against 6 and drew with one while losing the remaining two because of minor blunders. Luckily, I could open my FIDE rating in my very first tournament, though the rating is not much to be proud of. It set a platform for me to concentrate more on longer games and less on blitz.</p>
